Shaping legislation with the Government of Ecuador to advance sustainable development
As the leader of the UN country team in Ecuador; a middle-income country grappling with the effects of deep structural inequalities, the Resident Coordinator has been pulling together the capacities of different UN agencies, offered integrated analysis of the economic, political and humanitarian situation across the country, mobilized resources, advocated and ensured a UN seat at the table to shape national legislation, for the advancement of the 2030 Agenda.
As a result, the UN country team has helped the Government to identify a core set of priority issues and develop new pathways for sustainable development. It has expanded joint efforts for marginalized populations’ access to basic services, including education, healthcare and social protection, as well as innovation and inclusion in the labour market. And it has served as a strategic partner to the Government to progress more ambitious climate adaption measures and push forward environmental legislation and policies for environmental protection.
