Secretary-General appoints Julia Sanchez of Peru as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Dominican Republic
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Julia Sanchez of Peru as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Dominican Republic, with the host Government’s approval, starting on 1 September.
Ms. Sanchez brings more than 25 years of experience in development cooperation and humanitarian assistance, including in conflict and peacebuilding contexts.
Previously she served as Secretary General of ActionAid International, President-CEO of the Canadian Council for International Cooperation and Asia Regional Director of the Centre d'étude et de coopération internationale. She has held numerous leadership governance roles in non-governmental organizations at the national and global levels, including as Board Chair of CIVICUS and Co–Chair of CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness. Ms. Sanchez has lived and worked in Bolivia, Guatemala, Nepal and India.
Ms. Sanchez holds a master’s degree in Economics and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Economics from McGill University, in Montreal, Canada.
