Joint Action to Address the Plight of Young People in Eswatini

Two years into the implementation of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2021-2025) – the roadmap agreed between the UN and the Government of Eswatini that guides the UN’s work in the country over a five-year period – the UN country team had to face the disruptions brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and the unforeseen realities of a devastating cyclone and emerging civil unrest. Under the Resident Coordinator’s leadership, the UN has helped the Government prioritize and focus their responses to recover from the socio-economic impacts of the pandemic, respond to the natural disaster and tackle the underlying causes of civil discontent.

In particular, guided by the Resident Coordinator, the UN country team came together and articulated a joint UN offer to help the Government respond to the plight of your people, which was at the heart of the civil unrest. As a result, the UN has been critical in supporting efforts for job creation schemes, boosting capacities and skillsets, and building opportunities for young people to have a meaningful role in the life of the country.
