Economist in Eritrea

Jack Jones Zulu is the Economist and acting Team Leader and Head of the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Eritrea. He has been instrumental in supporting the UN Country Team conduct analysis to inform policy and programmes in response to the country challenges, ranging from the economic, social and humanitarian effects of unilateral sanctions, the impact of the war in Ukraine to the climate-induced food insecurity. 

Jack has acted as an important bridge between the UN system in Eritrea and the International Financial Institutions (IFIs) namely the IMF, World Bank and the African Development Bank in Eritrea through the Country Economists Network (CEN). The CEN is a platform for strategic cooperation and exchanges between the UN system and the IFIs in support of policy work in Eritrea. Although the UN-IFIs engagements are not formal institutional arrangements, the CEN offers opportunities to align the work of the IFIs with UN core advocacy. By contributing to such strategic collaborations, Jack has helped open new opportunities for rich knowledge exchanges and cross fertilization of ideas to strengthen the policy work of the UN country team in Eritrea.
