Head of Resident Coordinator's Office in Colombia
Meet Juan Munevar, the Head of Resident Coordinator’s Office in Colombia. Juan’s vision for the Resident Coordinator’s Office resembles a model of “think and do tanks”, combining both analytical and action functions.
Juan assists the Resident Coordinator and the UN country team to provide the Government with integrated policy support. He was instrumental in convening the UN country team to engage the government on various development priorities. He supported the Resident Coordinator and the UN country team in engaging 11 presidential candidates on suggested priorities on sustainable development for the country using a UN country team position paper “A Common Agenda for Colombia”. The paper incorporated the inputs from 23 UN entities to engage them on sustainable development agenda right after the election. Building on this, Juan helped collate UN country team’s 13 policy proposals on specific amendments to the National Development Plan to further embrace the Agenda 2030, eight of which resulted in specific modifications after the new government was in place.
Juan also leads the coordination of UN team’s work on development financing and social and economic inclusion, through which UN country team members jointly support the national and sub-national governments in new ways of measuring and designing programs for informal businesses.
Juan also led, under the guidance of the Resident Coordinator, progress on the efficiency's agenda. He was instrumental in drafting a business case for the expansion of the UN House from 4 entities to 11 in 2022. The new UN House was inaugurated in January 2023and hopes to deliver $100,000 in savings over the next four years, as well as serve as a proof of concept for the hybrid workspace model that can be replicated nationwide.
