Head of Resident Coordinator’s Office in the Dominican Republic

Pilar Palomino, the Head of Resident Coordinator’s Office in Dominican Republic, supports the Resident Coordinator in convening UN entities to address cross-border issues with neighboring Haiti, which has become a priority given the volatile situation in that country and its impact in the Dominican Republic. She leads operational and strategic coordination with the UN team in Haiti, including the organization of cross-border meetings, and facilitated cross-border dialogue and coordination between the two countries.

Thanks to this effort, the UN teams in both countries have conducted an analysis together and identified opportunities for cross-border joint programming.  The UN in the Dominican Republic is starting the implementation of a new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2023-2027), with a strong focus on human rights and the protection of the most vulnerable populations, as well as with on localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) localization, particularly in the area bordering with Haiti.

In response to the pandemic, Pilar was instrumental in facilitating a rapid, coordinated, and effective emergency response. Joint analysis, advocacy and integrated policy advice Pilar supported the UN country team on helped the Government to make informed decisions and to deliver quick responses in order to adapt to the changing situation caused by the pandemic.
