Head of the Resident Coordinator's Office in Mauritania

Meet Nazia Chothia, the Head of Resident Coordinator’s Office in Mauritania, who brings together development actors – UN, Government, Civil Society Organizations, Private Sector, Academia – to deliver coherent and sustainable solutions to development challenges in this lower middle-income country.

Nazia is currently supporting the Resident Coordinator and the UN Country team to finalize the new United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2024-2027). She played a central role in ensuring inclusion and participation of a wide range of stakeholders including UN agencies, civil society organizations and local authorities throughout the design process. Through her work, UN entities without a physical presence in the country were able to contribute and commit to support the implementation of the Cooperation Framework.

Jointly with national authorities, Nazia played an important role in organizing the first Strategic Dialogue between the Government and the UN since the adoption of the UN Development System Reform. The Dialogue, chaired by the Prime Minister, gathered seven Ministers and the UN country team led by the Resident Coordinator, to discuss the operationalization of the Cooperation Framework. As a result of the dialogue, the Cooperation Framework’s results framework and governance structure were formally and jointly approved and commitments to further cooperation in several sectors were taken. Participants agreed to use this mechanism to hold the Strategic Dialogues every year, to collectively review the UN joint work in Mauritania and engage in strategic discussions
