Head of Resident Coordinator's Office in South Sudan

South Sudan, after 11 years, continues to face multiple challenges including persistent subnational violence, lack of basic public services, mass flooding, conflict and climate related displacement and COVID-19 restrictions which continue to heighten vulnerabilities and cause human suffering.

As the Strategic Planner in the Resident Coordinator’s Office in the country, George Otoo is supporting the Resident Coordinator to make sure that UN’s humanitarian assistance, development work, and peacebuilding effort come together to a coherent support to the Government through the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2023-2025).  The design process involved 21 UN entities including 4 entities outside of the country, OCHA and UN Mission to ensure strong linkage between the UN’s Humanitarian Response Plan, the Cooperation Framework and UNMISS Vision.  George has led the establishment of the first Joint Steering Committee to provide oversight on the implementation of the Cooperation Framework.

George has also supported the Resident Coordinator in the design and implementation of an Integrated Office in the office of DSRSG/RC/HC, as well as Risk Management Unit to coordinate peace, humanitarian analysis and risk, and revitalized the coordination platform where the UN entities, Government, civil society and the development partners hold dialogues and jointly drive the integrated support across humanitarian, development and peacebuilding to the people in South Sudan, with a focus on durable solutions, agriculture, food security and climate action.
