Head of Resident Coordinator's Office in the Gambia
Meet George Lwanda, the Head of Resident Coordinator's Office in the Gambia.
In addition to harmonized programming, George is passionate about bringing UN country team to achieve cost efficiencies and sustainable and inclusive business operations. In this regard, he supported the Resident Coordinator in leading the design of roadmap for cost savings (estimated at nearly USD200,000 by 2025) through common administration, financial services, logistics and procurement. In the first year of implementation of the roadmap, the UN country team also reported 21% savings (about USD41,000). George played a key role in convening UN operations teams to agree on the importance of cost avoidance, providing relevant training and leveraging these changes to also make UN operations more inclusive, equitable and greener. It is noteworthy that common human resources and procurement services will, in 2023, implement gender responsive procurement that encourages more women-owned business to take part in our procurement process, and install a 95KWp solar facility, reducing carbon emissions by 58.97 tons per year.
