Communications Officer in Timor-Leste

Meet Ahmed Saleem, the Communications and Advocacy Officer in the Resident Coordinator Office in Timor-Leste.  

Ahmed is proud of his role in supporting the UN country team and network of UN communications officers, Ahmed led the coordination of disseminating verified information on COVID-19 and the 2021 floods that affected the country. His efforts helped to combat mis/disinformation position the UN messages with local and international media to mobilize resources.  

As a result, the UN's collective visibility in Timor-Leste has tripled in three years. The UN is much better positioned now in to tell a strong story of the UN in Timor-Leste, highlighting noteworthy initiatives, such as UN75 Celebrations, the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2021-25), major programmatic support such as the Cesta Basica Social Protection Programme and Spotlight Initiative, the Socio-Economic Impact Assessment of COVID-19 and the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme as well as the 2022 Presidential Elections in Timor-Leste.
