Data Management Officer in the Kyrgyz Republic
Meet Kanykey Orozbaeva, who joined the UN from the National Statistical Committee of her native Kyrgyzstan, where she served several leadership roles on sustainable development and environment statistics. From within the Resident Coordinator Office, Kanykey convenes a UN-wide network of data officers regularly to help harmonize data collection and monitoring across the UN. This has also enabled UN data experts in the country to collectively support the Kyrgyz National Statistical Committee to adapt the globally agreed SDG indicators to the country context and create a national database of these indicators. The UN’s new programme in the country, the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and associated UN country programme documents in Kyrgyzstan are now based on the single set of national SDG indicators. This provides a crucial foundation for a country to assess progress towards the SDGs against baselines and identify areas where the progress is lagging .
