Data Management Officer in Iraq

Ahmed Shakir, the Data Management Officer in the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Iraq, has helped the UN lay the foundation of effective data management and better access to relevant data sets for better decision-making.  

Ahmed has helped bring together data experts from 20 UN entities in the country, establishing substantive collaboration with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and other regional partners. This has involved strengthening communication and coordination channels across the UN but also with line ministries and central statistics office and civil society partners. Ahmed now supports a multi-partner network of data custodians, which serves as a key forum for data experts to exchange experiences and good practices.
