Leveraging UN Strengths and Mobilizing Partnerships for Gabon’s Green Transition
Supporting the Government of Gabon in its transition from a brown, oil-based economy to a sustainable green and blue economy, has been at the center of the UN country team’s recent efforts. The Resident Coordinator has helped UN agencies leverage their specific technical expertise and comparative advantages, as they help the Government diversify economic production, develop its agricultural sector, preserve its biodiversity and ensure that carbon credits are invested to advance the Sustainable Development Goals across the entire country.
The Resident Coordinator has also been critical in bringing to the table all partners – whether physically present in the country or not – to support these efforts. The UN country team has joined forces with the African Development Bank, the European Union and stakeholders from civil society and the private sector, and the Resident Coordinator has helped them to prioritize interventions and align efforts around Gabon’s national development priorities.
