Economist in Namibia

Eunice Ajambo, the Economist at the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Namibia, supports the UN Country Team by providing technical and advisory leadership, coordinating the development of a new generation of programmes towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and refining the UN’s strategy and principles for engagement with development partners. 
  
Under the Resident Coordinator’s leadership, Eunice coordinated the first-ever official engagement between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the UN Country Team. As a result and following an analysis on food security and tourism recovery in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic conducted by the two organisations, the IMF issued the first ever Rapid Financing Instrument (RFI) of US$270.83 million to Namibia.  
 
The Dialogues served as a platform for joint advocacy with the African Development Bank on the Country Strategy Paper, which allowed the UN Country Team to provide the Government with technical expertise supported with AfDB funding for the implementation of two agriculture-related projects. 
  
Through Eunice’s coordination, the UN Country Team has been invited by the Government to participate for the first time in the Article IV Consultations on the country’s economic and financial outlook and related opportunities. This will allow the UN Country Team to support the Government in carrying out an SDG Costing Exercise on education, health, water-sanitation-health, and road infrastructure, in line with national priorities.   
  
Coordinating the UNCT, UNECA, UNDESA, Eunice spearheaded the development and implementation of the UN Namibia macroeconomic model that was utilized by the UN and the Government to assess the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and guide recovery efforts.
