Every year more than 1.3 million people die as a result of road traffic accidents. 93 per cent of these fatalities happen in low- and middle-income countries. To stop these preventable deaths, we must do more to improve road safety management including through the promotion of safer driving environments, improved road infrastructure and better road-user behaviour.
To mark World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on 19 November, we sat down with Jean Todt, the UN Special Envoy for Road Safety to learn more about how safer roads can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
