Leadership in a Digital World: A view from India and Serbia

Even as digital technology has grown by leaps and bounds in the last decade, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the opportunity to leverage this for good, across countries and at scale. From connecting people to financial services to delivering food to online learning and vaccination delivery, the world has seen digital public infrastructure act as a shock-absorber and a catalyst for countries to accelerate inclusive and sustainable development.

Working with governments, private sector and civil society, UN Resident Coordinators are leading UN Country teams to leverage new innovations, build capacity, shape regulations and inclusive policies for digital connectivity to serve those left furthest behind.

In this conversation, Urusla Wynhoven, Representative of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) to the UN joins Shombi Sharpe, UN Resident Coordinator in India and Françoise Jacob, UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia to highlight the leadership that the respective governments and the UN are demonstrating to accelerate digital public infrastructure and tackle growing challenges of mis/disinformation and digital divides.
